23rd Psalm in the Eyes of Children

The first three lessons in the teaching literature I use in Children's Worship are based on the 23rd Psalm and the Good Shepherd from John 10. The kids enjoy reenacting the lessons using the wooden figures, rocks and a plastic wolf but I wanted them to have a deeper understanding of the 23rd Psalm.

I selected some of, in my opinion, the more meaningful verses and changed the wording into words and phrases they would understand.  I wrote it on our whiteboard using a different color for each verse(s) I used.  We started out saying the prayer as "repeat after me" after our storytime until they had it memorized. I hope it has been as much a comfort to them as the 23rd Psalm is for adults.

Here is our prayer, see if you can match it up with the Psalm.

     Jesus, thank you for giving me everything I need,

       Thank you for my many blessings.

         Help me to make good choices.

     I will not be afraid because, everywhere I go, you are with me all the time.

         I will live in your house forever.

This is a special invitation to all children to join us for worship this Sunday, August 2, for our last special Summer worship, and every Sunday when Children's Worship resumes Sunday September 13.
