Living with a Legend

Max Morath, a friend of mine, was a world-famous ragtime pianist that sparked the international revival of ragtime music in the middle of the 20th century. He died recently at the age of 97. His wife, a professional writer, responded to my letter telling me that her next book is entitled Living with a Legend. She described how musicians have to make music because music speaks to their souls. Max was no exception. His last concert was at the age of 94; he explained to everyone that he had to make music. This brought him joy and purpose in life.

This exchange of letters causes me to think about what brings joy to my life. Music speaks to me and my soul. I am sure this is true for many of you. Soli Deo Gloria, to God alone be the glory. Max, may you rest in peace with your many friends.
