Scammers Spoofing Chas

Hello, friends,

I'm hearing reports from many of my friends that someone is spoofing my identity and asking people to send Apple gift cards. This is not me. There are several ways to tell it is not me:

  • The from address is a misspelling of my actual email address (in this case an extra 's' after 'chas,' but this kind of subtle misspelling is typical of spoofing scams).

  • The "I'm in a meeting and can't call" is a false sense of urgency so characteristic of all scams.

  • There is no charitable program I am a part of that deals in gift cards. Gift cards are scammers' choice for getting money because they are much less traceable.

  • If I needed money for any program with any ministry that I am involved with, I would use normal channels for approval and traceability; I will never ask you for money in any form.

Please use your email system to mark the email as Spam or Phishing. Please do not engage with the scammer; just let them talk to the void.

"Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world." I John 4:1

Thank you for your attention and vigilance,

Blessings,

Chas
