Upcoming League Focus: Prediction, Prophecy, and Predestination

In general, the focus of the League of Questioneers is to learn approaches to Bible study that empower us to ask good questions of the Bible. We started with a dash through the story of the Bible. This gives us narrative "pegs" on which to hang the rest of our inquiry. Then we explored layers and layers of tools scholars and exegetes use to try to draw meaning out of the text of the Bible. We looked at the study of the physical fragments of papyrus copies of the Bible; we looked at grammatical studies of the text; we looked at literary ways of reading the Bible; we looked at studies of the culture the Bible was written in and the culture the Bible is read in today. We looked at how to draw meaning about God out of the Bible; we asked what then are we to do, and looked at ways to organize the ethics we find in the Bible. We call these layers of methods for studying the Bible the "Exegesis stack."

Along the way, we captured questions we had. We didn't work too hard to answer them. In the League of Questioneers, it's always ok to have questions, whether there are answers or not. Starting Tuesday, July 7, we're going to try to address some of those questions by narrowing our focus and organizing these questions around the themes of Prediction, Prophecy, and Predestination. Our questions will be focused on the text of the Bible, but we will try to bring to bear as many of the methods of the exegesis stack as we can. We MIGHT even find some answers (or we might not, and that's ok, too).
